LColombo Posted October 2, 2017 Report Posted October 2, 2017 May he have been Carlo Rossi? There was an officer with this name, born in Genoa in 1901. During WWII he was initially a Lieutenant Commander (Capitano di Corvetta) attached as observer to Air Force units in Libya, and later (1941) a Commander (Capitano di Fregata) in command of the destroyers Giovanni Da Verrazzano and Lanzerotto Malocello. He survived the sinking of Da Verrazzano (19 October 1942) but died in the sinking of Malocello, on 24 March 1943. Awarded four M.A.V.M. and three M.B.V.M. for his wartime service. However Rossi is literally the first most common surname in Italy, so there may have been other commanders with the same name... Quote
