Marco U-78 Scirè Inviato 3 Ottobre, 2005 Segnala Share Inviato 3 Ottobre, 2005 The metal pin (22 mm wide) consists of a silver color submarine profile facing right across the middle of a dark blue or black enameled ring with a red enameled Royal Crown on top. Within the ring are the words: "R. SMG. ONICE" below the crown, and "SONO FIERO DIVOI" below the submarine. According to an Italian source, personnel who served aboard the Italian submarine "ONICE" during WWII wore the pin above their ribbon bar, and that the pin was probably made between 1935-1943. He also said the words on the pin "SONO FIERO DIVOI" where what Mussolini said to the submarine people during a sub parade in Taranto sometime in the late 30s. The Italian Submarine ONICE was a Perla Class Submarine built by O.T.O., La Spezia in 1935. The ONICE took part in the Spanish Civil War, and for several months was ceded to the Spanish Nationalist Navy as Aguilar Tablada. In June 1940 the ONICE was stationed in the Mediterranean. During the period of co-belligerency, ONICE was transferred to the United States where she carried out training activities on the Atlantic coast.
