Al fine di proteggere al meglio, il transito dei due SSBN, hanno deciso di scortare insieme i propri sub. Sia gli Stati Uniti che la Russia, si sono opposti a questa decisione, anche se ognuno comunque ha deciso di intraprendere azioni separate. Gli Stati Uniti hanno espressamente dichiarato che invieranno i propri SSN d'attacco per affondare l'SSBN francese mentre per quello inglese hanno preferito una linea diplomatica. La Russia invece si è opposta al governo Inglese, perciò ha dichiarato che attaccherà con i propri SSN in zona l'SSBN Britannico. Sia la Russia che gli Stati Uniti, comunque hanno dichiarato che non tollereranno azioni ostili da parte opposta di ognuno di loro. Insomma il canale di Parry a Nord del Canada è stato dichiarato zona di guerra.
