Which Submarine Is It ?

Either Italian or German, the boat in the photograph is clearly operating in the Mediterranean - as shown by the Italian-style camouflage, with brown/greenish splotches on a light blue/gray background.

Some details in the conning tower make me think of an Italian "600" class boat ("Acciaio" series), but - as these submarines had conning towers clearly inspired by those of German "VII C" type boats - this is clearly a not so much educated guess... Nevertheless, the gun seems to be an Italian 100/47, so this could be the feature to identify the nationality of the boat.

What do you think about the drawing on the tower?

Sorry, but the photos are not of the same submarine... The first and the second surely do, and now I'm sure to say that they show an Italian "600" class submarine (very likely - as I said before - of the "Acciaio" series), but they don't show a boat that came to Bordeaux. Besides having a "mediterranean" camouflage, the only "600" to arrive to Bordeaux was the Perla (name-boat of the "Perla" series of the "600" class) in May 1941, but Perla's conning tower was quite different and that boat was painted in a completely different way.

The fourth photo doesn't show the same boat of the first and of the second (notice that there are squared portholes on the conning tower's side and the tower's design is completely different, with an overhanging upper part).

Only the third photo could be referred to Bordeaux, but the details of the submarine are too scant to try identifying it.

So, there are at least two boats (if not three..) in the four photographs.

Once in possession of the precious treasure, could you (or your friend) kindly provide us a clear crop of the sketch shown on the submarine's conning tower of the first image?

I'd like to create an archive of such sketches belonging to italians submarines during WW2, thank you in advance!

Accordingly, the submarine of the first two photographs should be the Bronzo ("600" class - "Acciaio" series").

Sir, when you post photos asking for an ID, you can try to put the (rather invasive) watermark outside the areas useful for the ID ?

Best regards from Italy,

dott. Piergiorgio.

Concordo anche qui - I do agree with Piergiorgio.
