Dopo il 1919 rimase in servizio nella neonata Reichsmarine. La Panther, durante i suoi trent'anni di servizio, fu protagonista di diversi episodi storici, dall'incidente del Markomannia alla crisi venezuelana del 1902-1903, fino al cosiddetto caso Panther e alla crisi di Agadir.
