Concerns About Product Quality Crucial to Final Decision

 

 

 

SAN FRANCISCO – November 26, 2003 – Ubisoft™, one of the world’s largest videogame publishers, today announced that it has officially ceased production on Harpoon IV and has chosen not to release the title.

 

 

 

“Ubisoft is committed to making the best military simulation games possible, and unfortunately, the Harpoon IV project wasn’t meeting this goal. In our judgment, the product quality could never reach a level that meets or exceeds consumer expectations,” said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing, Ubisoft. “We will never intentionally ship a product that is sure to disappoint our discerning customer base.”

 

 

 

While the game will not be finished or published by Ubisoft, discussions are underway to license the source code to a third-party group within the community in order to finish the game. Information regarding this development will be available soon at the game’s community website http://harpoon4.ubi.com/US/.

Dopo l'uscita di SHII la ultimation ha fatto PLoooFFFF e il progetto HarpooIV e' passato in mano della UBI ad un gruppo di programmatori rumeni. Nel sentore che probabilmente avrebbe fatto pLOOFF anche harpoonIV hanno lasciato perdere anche quello.

 

Ora avete davanti due progetti software di cui le case produttrici vendono allegramente il codice a terzi.

 

E io rivolglio ancora indietro i miei soldi per SHII :s04:

ci sono i pro e i contro..

 

nel primo caso .. sborsi una barca si soldi.. e hai in mano del codice NON creato da te.... .. che NON sarà tanto facile da modicare a tuo totale piacimento...

 

da piccolo programmatore.. io penso, che è sempre meglio fare le cose da 0 e non mettere le mani sul codice di altri programmtori..

 

... poi routine o engine particolari.. si possono sempre prendere in 'prestito' ..... :s01:

 

l'unica cosa che ha un buon valore è il nome .. "harpoon IV"
